They’re very smooth and allow for full speed writing without the annoying scratchy feel from the crisp edges of a CI or italic nib. SOLD: Burgundy Faceted Namiki Vanishing Point

The first version of the faceted Vanishing Point was introduced in 1981 under the Pilot brand name. The first Namiki Vanishing Point appeared some time in 1994 and was discontinued in 1999. This beautiful burgundy example has only a few small surface scratches which can only be seen when you’re really looking for them. This version of the VP is lighter and slimmer than the newer, rounded Vanishing Point that most of us are familiar with today. The pen comes with the proper CON-20 squeeze type converter and your choice of one of the following nibs: fine, medium, or medium stub. SOLD: Aurora 88P with Medium Stub Nib

For sale is a vintage Aurora 88P with a medium hand ground stub nib. The 88P was the third generation of the 88 and was manufactured from 1958 to 1964. This pen was probably made around 1962-63 based on the serial number and that the 88P sold 3.8 million units. The hood, barrel, and piston knob are all made from celluloid and have a nice deep black color that you don’t get with some vintage ebonite pens. The ink window is very clear considering the age of the pen. You won’t have a problem seeing the ink level or the piston. The piston is in great working order and operates almost as smooth as my Pelikan M200. This pen has a semi-gloss finish that you can see in the next photo when compared to a polished body. If the buyer prefers, I can polish the pen for no additional charge. The last photo shows a writing sample of the super smooth medium stub. Notice the line variation, something more associated with cursive italics, but this one won’t have the harsh edges so you can write at full speed and still have that buttery smooth feel. $140 SOLD

Six Awesome Grinds on Some Gorgeous Pens

I recently had the pleasure of grinding a stub on a Bexley Submariner for a customer and he liked it so much he decided to send me 7 more of his pens to have worked on. Six of them needed to be ground into stubs, CI’s and italics, and the other just needed some adjustment to fix its’ inconsistent and dry flow. The pens pictured above starting with the green Sheaffer Balance II and moving clockwise are: Autumn Sheaffer Balance II, Bexley 56 Tibaldi, maroon Pelikan M250, black Pelikan M200, blue Pelikan M805, and a black Bexley Simplicity. The following photo shows the nibs before they were ground. Finally, there’s a photo of a writing sample. I have to say they all turned out great and it was a pleasure working on them. If you need a grind on one of your favorite pens let me know. I’d be more than happy to do it. My turn around time is 2-4 days.

Pilot Vanishing Point regrind into a stub

A customer from FPN contacted me about having the bold nib in his VP ground into a cursive italic. After discussing with him the details of how his pen would be used we came to the conclusion that a stub might be the most beneficial, and pleasureable nib to use under his conditions. I got some great line variation with this stub and softened the edges just enough to keep it from feeling scratchy when writing at full speed. I also increased the flow just a tad as the owner wished. Here’s a little writing sample:

So what do you guys think? Is it time for you to send in your nib for a regrind? I’ve got a one day turn around.

My first grind…

This is the first nib I’ve ground for someone other than myself. A good friend of mine, who runs the blog Mon Bon Voyage, asked me to grind his Pelikan M200 into a cursive italic. It started out as a medium and ended up somewhere between and a fine/medium stub, which the owner actually preferred. I was a little surprised at how well it turned out, especially since it was only the 5th nib I had done.

Finally, here is a writing sample for you enjoyment. The first line was written using the medium nib that came with the pen. The second line is the completed stub. Both were written using Levenger Smokey. The third line is the completed nib in Noodler’s La Couleur Royale.
