For sale is an incredible vintage Mont Blanc 242G. It has a nib that you just dream about – a 14k gold, broad oblique with a good amount of flex that’s as smooth as butter. Just check out the writing sample:

The 242G is a piston filler and this one still works very well. It operates smoothly and provides a full fill every time. The blind cap has a few small dings and the piston turning knob is a little chewed up. The clip does have some tarnishing but the rest of the pen is in good cosmetic condition. The vintage Aurora 88 is just one of the many great pens to come out of Italy in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. It was first introduced in 1946 and by early 1952 had sold 750,000 pieces, selling just over a million by the end of the year before it was replaced by the 88K in 1953. The serial number of this pen, 579383, dates its production to around 1950, making it more desirable than higher numbered pens. This particular pen has aged quite well with the cap free of dings and the ink window showing some ambering. The hood, barrel, and piston knob are in excellent condition. The piston filler operates very well thanks to the seal having been replaced by a modern piston o-ring from David Nishimura at VintagePens. The real attraction, though, is the nib: a fine semi-flex that has been ground into a nice stub. Its very easy to write without flexing the nib to get the effects from the fine stub, but, if you add some pressure to utilize the flex you can really exaggerate the line variation. $180 SOLD

The Parker Parkette De Luxe was introduced in 1934 as a lower tier pen that cost $1.75, compared to the Vacumatic that retailed at $7.50 for the smaller sizes and $10 for the Oversize. The Parkette is the only line of pens made by Parker with a lever filler and this one has been restored to function as well as the day it came out of the factory. The Parkette De Luxe has a beautiful fluted design that when combined with the black and red marbled celluloid give a personality all its own. The cap is supposed to have three gold plated rings but when I acquired this pen the rings were missing and it looked like someone tried to sand away the grooves. I finished the process to remove any trace of the grooves and polished the cap lip to match the rest of the pen. The fine semi-flex nib still has its two-tone plating intact and is a delight to write with. With soft pressure the nib writes a consistent fine line, but if you lean into it a little you can bring out some nice flex. $60 SOLD

For sale is a 1945 Silver Pearl Vacumatic. There are a few inconsistencies with this pen. First, the original nib was badly damaged when I received it and has been swapped out for a Parker VS nib with lots of flex. Secondly, I don’t know of any Vacs after 1942 that continued to use the jeweled blind cap, especially as late as 1945. The blind cap does match the rest of the pen very well, both in color and fit. The length of the pen when capped measures 131mm, which  puts it right between the Major and Long Major. This pen has been completely restored: new diaphragm, nib, feed, and breather tube thoroughly cleaned, and the entire pen has been polished to a great shine. The pen does have a personalization imprint of “W. CAMPS” that blends in fairly well. Both the clip and blind cap have some wear to the plating around the tassies. The pen feels great in the hand and the nib is a joy to use. $130 SOLD

Here is a beautiful example of an Aurora 88P with a luscious super flex nib. The 88P was the third generation of the 88 and was manufactured from 1958 to 1964. This pen was probably made around 1962-63 based on the serial number and that the 88P sold 3.8 million units. The hood is made from ebanite which is uncommon for the 88P as the section is usually made from celluloid, like the barrel and the piston nob. I prefer an ebonite section because it feels ‘warmer’ to the touch and doesn’t slide around if there’s a little moisture on my fingers. And you definitely want that control when you’re working the flex in that nib. The ink window has ambered over the years but is still more than clear enough to see the ink level and the piston. The piston operates smoothly, if only a little stiff, and provides good suction to ensure a full fill. The pen has been lightly polished to remove any surface scratches and bring back the nice shine it once had. $175 SOLD

Please allow me to introduce one of the coolest pens I’ve handled in a while. There isn’t one particular thing about this pen that makes it great (the nib is awesome though), its how the whole pen works together that makes it so intriguing. Then entire pen, except the section, is made from sterling silver which gives it a decent weight,  despite being as thin as it is. The pen is in very good overall condition with only a tiny ding in the body. The silver has tarnished, but it is really a symbol of it’s age and what it’s been through, much like the white beard of a wise elder. Something to be proud of.

If you’re looking at this fountain pen then you’re probably more interested in the nib, something vintage Watermans happen to be known for. This one won’t let you down. It has a very flexible Waterman #2 that just begs to be pushed to the limits, almost like it enjoys having it’s tines spread wide open. Writing with this nib certainly is addicting and once you start it won’t be long before you’ve emptied the sac of every last drop of ink. Don’t hesitate to snatch this treasure! $195 SOLD

This pen was made in Canada sometime between 1934-1939. The barrel imprint reads “W.A. SHEAFFER PEN CO.” Next line “(OF CANADA LTD.) TORONTO, ONT. PAT”. Next line is hard to read but looks like “DEC10 12-JAN 27-OCT20-NOV” with several more digits after the “NOV” that I can’t make out.
