I have the Akribos XXIV. I have not had any problems with it until today...stopped ticking. I wound it about fifty times...nothing...so I shook it and started running -- alright! Well not so fast...

When I pulled the crown to set the time, both hands moved and it seemed the tension between the minute and hours hand had lost their strength. I could not change one without affecting the other...and when I did, I could not line up the hours...so I wanted it to be 7 o clock. The hand is on the 12 but the hour was between 7 and 8. Nothing I did would change it -- the hands were loose. I shook my hand and now the hands spin free. I got this new off of overstock.com but I have no way of getting ahold of anyone to have a repair. I paid 60-70. I may just get a different watch. I love it but to pay more for a small repair, I am guessing is plain retarded...what can I expect in quality for a 60 watch ?

any repair info is appreciated.

I know what you mean about the match-up between fountain pens and watches, they're all over the place at FPN.

It’s the demonstrator pen of the watch world!

Haha, I never thought of it like that. I like that.

Thanks for the link and info on the watch. I don't know how much I'll get into watches as that would take away from what fountain pens I can buy ;)

Congrats on the watch! Fountain pens and mechanical watches often seem to be a good match-up. A display back lets you marvel at all the tiny bits working as a unit. It's the demonstrator pen of the watch world! :) The movement is a Chinese made model HZ2189G skeleton. Here's a link to a place that sells them:
 www.ofrei.com/page1119.html

The Chinese manufacture these for less than the Swiss like so much else. I'm sure it will give you good service and it's definitely a looker. If it ever breaks the benefit is that you can buy another movement and have it fitted instead of a long costly repair. Now that your foot is in the door, so to speak, you might find yourself ogling more watches in the future. There are a lot of watch boards out there but timezone.com is a very good one. Thanks for the post and the great pictures!
